Cosmetic peptide

In skincare, a peptide is a short chain of amino acids that is claimed to signal skin cells, for example to support collagen production.

What it means

Cosmetic peptides are grouped loosely. Signal peptides are said to mimic collagen fragments, and carrier peptides deliver trace minerals such as copper. Some are marketed as alternatives to botulinum toxin, but the evidence for that is much weaker.

Most cosmetic peptides have lab data and a few small human trials, and many claims have not been tested in controlled studies.
