What is beta-glucan?
Beta-glucans are polysaccharides — chains of glucose — found in the cell walls of oats, yeast, mushrooms and seaweed. DermaGlass® lists two: beta-glucan and yeast beta-glucan.
What it does for skin
In skincare they act as humectants and film-formers that help the skin hold water, and they are used to calm skin that feels dry or irritated.
What the research shows
A 2025 review of beta-glucan in skin care covers its structure, its moisturizing and soothing roles, and its use in cosmetic formulas. Evidence for topical beta-glucan comes from a mix of laboratory work and smaller human studies.
In DermaGlass®
Beta-glucan and yeast beta-glucan are listed 10th and 11th of 21 ingredients.

Safety
