Non-comedogenic

Non-comedogenic means a product is labelled as unlikely to clog pores, but there is no standard test or legal definition behind the term.

What it means

Comedones are the clogged pores behind blackheads and some breakouts. Companies test products in different ways, so the label is a marketing claim rather than a guarantee.

Acne-prone skin reacts differently from person to person. Patch testing a new product for a week is a practical check.

Also known as

  • non comedogenic
  • does not clog pores
  • oil-free
