A marine bio-active is a compound from seaweed, algae or other marine organisms, used in skincare for its biological effect on skin.

What it means

Examples include kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) extract and red seaweed (Chondrus crispus). Many marine extracts have lab or animal data, while human trials are fewer.

“Marine” does not mean gentler: any extract can irritate or sensitize skin. Look for the named botanical (INCI) name on the ingredient list rather than only the word “marine”.
