What it means

Mitochondria also help manage calcium, some cell signalling and programmed cell death. Mitochondrial function tends to decline with age, which is one reason energy-related compounds such as NAD+ are studied in aging.

Photobiomodulation research proposes that red and near-infrared light acts on a mitochondrial enzyme, cytochrome c oxidase.
