Double-blind

Double-blind means that neither the participants nor the researchers who assess the outcomes know who received the active treatment.

What it means

Blinding reduces bias from expectations and from how outcomes are judged. Studies can be single-blind (participants only), double-blind or triple-blind.

Blinding matters most for subjective outcomes, such as how skin looks or feels. A trial can be randomized and controlled but still unblinded.
